Does this system of equations have one solution, no solutions, or an infinite number of solutions? x - y = 4; x + y = 8

Explanation:

x - y = 4 → (1)

x + y = 8 → (2)

add the 2 equations term by term to eliminate y

(x + x) + (y - y) = 8 + 4

2x + 0 = 12

2x = 12 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x = 6

substitute x = 6 into (2) and solve for y

6 + y = 8 ( subtract 6 from both sides )

y = 2

the system has one solution , that is (6, 2 )
