If a student is caught using cannabis, the school should have a clear policy in place outlining the consequences of such behavior. Depending on the severity of the situation and the school's policies, some possible actions that the school may take include:

1) Meeting with the student and their parents to discuss the situation and educate them on the risks and legal consequences of cannabis use.

2)Referring the student to a counselor or other mental health professional to address any underlying issues that may have led to their drug use.

3) Suspending or expelling the student from school, depending on the severity of the situation and the school's policies.

The reason why schools take such actions is to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for all students. Drug use, including cannabis use, can have negative effects on students' physical and mental health, academic performance, and behavior. Additionally, drug use can also be illegal, and schools have a responsibility to enforce laws and promote healthy and responsible behavior. By addressing the situation appropriately and providing education and support, the school can help the student to make better choices in the future and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for all.
