Piper and Michelle are both saving money to buy a digital music player. Piper already has 75$ and plans pm saving 10$ a month. Michelle only has 25$ but plans on saving $20 per month. How many months will pass before the will have saved the same amount of money?

Piper: 75$ + 10m

Michelle:

25$ + 20m

Equation:

10m + 75 = 20m + 25

Step 1: Subtract 20m from both sides.

10m + 75 = 20m + 25

-20 -20

-10m + 75 = 20

Step 2: Subtract 75 from both sides.

-10m + 75 = 25

-75 -75

-10m = -50

Step 3: Divide both sides by -10.

-10m = -50

----- -----

-10 -10

m = 5
