Sophie, a character in Justin Sayre's Pretty, has such a rich backstory. She experiences very personal problems in addition to the typical problems that preteens have, but she still manages to go through life and live it to the fullest. The fact that Sophie is able to manage her mother's addiction while still managing her personal relationships and day-to-day activities is something that many of us find difficult or impossible to do, which makes her incredibly remarkable.
