How would gravity cause planets to move if they did not have inertia?

Gravity acts as a force that pulls objects towards each other. In the absence of any other force, the planets would be attracted towards the Sun, but without inertia they would not have any tendency to continue moving in a circular or elliptical orbit around it. Instead, they would simply fall towards the Sun, until they collided with it or were pulled apart by tidal forces. In conclusion, we love inertia!
