Check the picture below.

so the area of the pyramid is really just the summed up area of that 48x48 square and those four triangles with a base of 48 and a height of 40.


\stackrel{ \textit{\LARGE Areas} }{\stackrel{ square }{(48)(48)}~~ + ~~\stackrel{ \textit{four triangles} }{4\left[\cfrac{1}{2}(48)(40) \right]}}\implies 2304+3840\implies \text{\LARGE 6144}~m^2
