Mercutio is considered to be one of Shakespeare’s great creations, yet he is killed relatively early in the play. What makes Mercutio so memorable a character? What would have changed if he would not have died?

Answer:

Mercutio brought humour to the play so the atmosphere of the play changes after his death. If he had never died, then the humour would still be carrying on and Romeo would never be banished from killing Tybalt. Because of this, Mercutio's death impacts everyone in the play.
