Explanation:

As an estimate, the x-coordinate does not lie perfectly on 1 or 2. So we have to read in between.

Is it closer to 1 or 2? Ask yourself.

It's closer to 2. Our x is now 1.7.

As a second estimate, the y-coordinate does not lie perfectly on 3, but just above the 3.

Our y is now 3.1.

Also: do you own a graphing calculator?

Go to y = and put in the equation they gave you.

y = -1/2x + 4 and see which choice lies on the line in the "table" option.
