Jenna stood in front of the closed door. She knew she had

every right to be here. Your exam scores are just as high as
Cora's, she said to herself. There's no reason you should
have been left off the math team while Cora was named
captain. She had never been one to rock the boat, but she
couldn't just let this lie.
She pushed the door open and saw Ms. Jenson, the math
team advisor, sitting at her desk. "Ms. Jenson? Can I talk to
you for a minute?" Her voice wavered, but she tried to look
confident.
"Sure, said Ms. Jenson, "but I hope this isn't about naming
Cora captain of the math team. I'm afraid my decision is
final."
Jenna took a deep breath and prepared to plead her case.

Answer:

While Jenna felt like she deserved a spot as captain of the math team, she felt bad because Cora won that title instead.
