If $73.47 is paid for 35L and 50L costs $104.95, determine the constant of proportionality.

k = y/x

The constant of proportionality is the ratio between two directly proportional quantities. Two quantities are directly proportional when they increase or decrease at the same rate.

So we have 73.47 / 35L = 2.099
k = 2.099
We also have 104.95 / 50L = 2.099
k = 2.099

So our ratio is for every L we have an increase of 2.099

In this instance it tells us fuel is $2.099 per Liter
