Magellan's invasion of the Philippines occurred in the 16th century. In 1521, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the Philippines while searching for a westward route to the Spice Islands. He claimed the islands for Spain and converted some of the local inhabitants to Christianity. However, he was killed in a battle with the local ruler Lapu-Lapu on the island of Mactan. After Magellan's death, the expedition continued under the leadership of Juan Sebastián Elcano and ultimately completed the first circumnavigation of the world. The Spanish returned to the Philippines in 1565, establishing the colony of the Spanish East Indies, which lasted until the Philippine Revolution in 1898.

Hope it helps :)
