Answer: Kwame Nkrumah was a politician and statesman from Ghana who was an essential player in the fight for Ghana's independence from British colonial rule. He was born in Nkroful, a small village west of the Gold Coast (now Ghana), on September 21, 1909. Nkrumah accepted his schooling in the US and Britain, where he became engaged with political activism and communist developments. In 1947, he returned to the Gold Coast, founded the Convention People's Party (CPP) in 1949, and quickly became involved in the fight for independence.
