Answer: X = -61/30, Y = 14/15.

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Multiply the first equation by 4 to get -8x+4y=20

2. Add the second equation to this new equation to get -4x+13y=37

3. Multiply the second equation by 2 to get 8x+2y=34

4. Subtract the first equation from this new equation to get 15y=14

5. Solve for y to get y=14/15

6. Finally, substitute y into one of the original equations to solve for x. Using the first equation, we have -2x+(14/15)=5 which simplifies to -2x=61/15. Solving for x gives x=-61/30.

So the solution is x=-61/30 and y=14/15.

Hope this helps, and have a great day!

-2x+y=5 isolate the y = y=2x+5

Use the second equation to solve:

4x+y=17 =

4x + 2x+5=17 now solve normally

6x+5= 17
6x=12
X=2

To find y:

4(2)+y=17
Y=9
