D. Abolishing reservations and relocating Native Americans
In 1954, the U.S. government began an initiative to relocate Native Americans from their reservations to cities and towns in an effort to assimilate them into mainstream American society. This initiative, known as the Indian Relocation Act, was aimed at promoting economic development and improving the quality of life for Native Americans. However, the program was met with widespread resistance and criticism, and it was eventually discontinued by 1962.
