Answer: Mary is a very mean and unpleasent girl. When her mom and dad die Mary is sent to England to live with her Uncle. When she gets to her Uncles house she hears something. When she plays outside she hears a whistle. Then when she is eating a sandwich a dog eats her ham. Then when she goes to bed she hears the noise again. And the next day when she goes to play outside she sees the dog again and this time the dog leads her to a wall she tries to climb up it but she falls. Then when the house maid calls her she goes to bed and hears the noise, when she follows it she figures out it is crying and it is coming from her cousin Colin Craven.

The next time she finds the dog she goes to the wall where the dog had brought her to the day before. She tries to climb over the wall but falls on the other side where she finds a forest that seems magical and in that forest she sees a bird that leads her to a key, then she puts the key in her pocket and starts going back. But on her way back to the But on her way back to the mansion Mary hears another whistle. She keeps hearing the whistle and she follows it until she finds Dicken.

The next time she plays outside the dog gets its foot caught in a fox trap. Dicken suggests they cut the foot that's caught in the trap off but then like magic the forest heals the dogs leg and they see a gate. The key May found unlocks the gate and Mary tells Dickon that they should get Colin on his wheel chair. When they bring him to the garden Mr. Craven finds out and locks Mary in her room. Then Mary goes outside when she is let out by the house maid. Then the mansion starts burning and when Mary figures out that Mr. Craven is inside she saves him and leads him to Colin. When Mary showed Mr. Craven to Colin, Colin starts walking to Mr. Craven. And they all live happy lives.
