In the United States during the late 1800s life was pretty tough. People lived hand to mouth. They were working long hours in harsh conditions. There was no electricity as they are now. They used candles to burn light. They bought territories and expanded. Soon by the time the U.S. became a place with economic opportunities with immigrants moving in. Some main acts were women's suffrage, child labor, abolitionist movement.
