What are the values of x if (2x-5)(x+3)=13

Answer: 3.5 & -4

Explanation:

Expand the brackets

2x² + 6x - 5x - 15 = 13

Make the RHS equal to 0

2x² + x - 28 = 0

Factorise

(2x - 7)(x + 4) = 0

If first bracket is 0:

2x - 7 = 0

2x = 7

x = 3.5

If second bracket is 0:

x + 4 = 0

x = -4
