Answer: 42cm

Explanation:

Using the formula

(Hypotenuse^2)= (Opposite^2) + (Adjacent^2)

Hypotenuse= 58cm

Opposite= 40cm

Adjacent= x

Therefore

(58^2)= (40^2) + (x^2)

3364= 1600 + x^2

3364-1600= x^2

1764= x^2

x= 1764^1/2

x= 42

Adjacent= 42cm

Answer:

Explanation:

If you are looking for the value of x, use the Pythagorean Theorem.

x² = 58² - 40² = 1764

x = √1764 = 42
