line BE and CD are parallel

hence AB:AC = AE:AD

=> AB/AC = AE/AD

=> 4/(4+2) = 7/(7+x)

=> 4/6 = 7/(7+x)

=> 7+x = 7 × 3/2

=> 7+x = 21/2

=> x = 21/2 - 7

=> x = (21-14)/2 (taking 2 as LCM)

=> x = 7/2 = 3.5

Hence the answer is B.
