Answer is 11a + 4

Step by step

(6a + 2 ) - ( -5a - 2)

The subtraction sign between the two terms changes the signs on the 2nd term because it is the same as -1

(6a + 2 ) + -1( -5a - 2)

The 1 is assumed but not written
So change the signs and add together the like terms

6a + 2 + 5a + 2
6a + 5a add together, they are like terms of the variable a
2 + 2 add together because they are constants with no variable

11a + 4 is your answer
