Hannah has an eraser 1 1/2 in. long, a pencil 5 7/8 in. long, and a marker 7 5/8 in. long. Can she arrange these items into a triangle? Explain your thinking.

Hello !

- for a triangle to be constructible, the longest side must be less than the sum of the other two sides. -

already, the denominator must be the same everywhere to be able to calculate, therefore:

11/2 = (11 × 4) / (2 × 4) = 44/8

then you have to ask yourself if

44/8 is smaller than

57/8 + 75/8 .

57/8 + 75/8 = 132/8

44/8 ⟨ 132/8

Yes, the triangle is feasible.

I hope I helped you !!

Have a good evening !!!
