What is the side length of the smallest square plate on which a ​36-cm chopstick can fit along a diagonal without any​ overhang?

Explanation:

The 36 cm would be the hypotenuse of a RIGHT triangle with equal leg lengths ( square plate )

so use Pythagorean Theorem

Hypotenuse^2 = leg1^2 + leg2^2 ( leg1 = leg2)

36^2 = 2 leg1^2

1296 = 2 leg1^2

leg1 = 25.5 cm = square plate side length
