They can provide various types of blocks such as wooden blocks, foam blocks, and cardboard blocks, as well as other materials like cars, animals, and people. The environment should be safe, spacious, and well-organized to allow children to work and explore freely.
2. Model block play and encourage participation: ECEs should model block play by demonstrating to children how to stack blocks, build towers or houses, and create shapes. They should also encourage participation by inviting children to join in, praising their efforts, and providing guidance when needed.
3. Use open-ended questioning: ECEs can use open-ended questioning to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Instead of giving direct instructions, they can ask children questions like "What else could you build with these blocks?" or "How can you make your tower taller?" This type of questioning encourages children to think creatively and develop their problem-solving skills.
