5(x + 14) = 100 ( divide both sides by 5 )

x + 14 = 20 ( subtract 14 from both sides )

x = 6

given 2 intersecting chords of a circle then the product of the measures of the parts of one chord is equal to the product of the measures of the parts of the other chord , that is

3y = 9x = 9(6) = 54 ( divide both sides by 3 )

y = 18
