Summarizing a literary or informational text is similar to summarizing an event for a friend in that both require the reader/listener to identify and condense the most important information. When summarizing a text, the reader must identify the key ideas, plot points, and arguments presented in the text, while leaving out any unnecessary details. Similarly, when summarizing an event for a friend, the listener must identify the most important and relevant aspects of the event, while leaving out any extraneous or tangential details. Both types of summarizing require the reader/listener to distill complex information into a concise and understandable summary.
