I do not support the death penalty for two main reasons.

First, I do not believe the state should have the power to execute its citizens. No death penalty means higher accountability for the state. If people get used to allowing the state to kill its citizens, it could have catastrophic effects. The death penalty gives the state more power over its citizens than it should ever have.

My second argument against the death penalty is the very real fact of innocent people being put to death. The justice system is not perfect, and innocents are locked up all the time. The thought of an innocent person dying for committing a crime they did not commit makes me very wary of the death penalty.
