Multiply!

Carita has MORE wood than Thomas. For example, if Thomas has 1 piece of wood, Carita has 5.5 pieces of wood. If he had 2 pieces, Carita has 2x5 1/2 = 11 pieces of wood.

“*Times* as much…” implies multiplication. The x sign is a ‘times sign’, and “times” is synonymous with “multiplication”.
