Explanation:

rewrite 5-0.7x=0.2y in terms of x,

divide both sides by 0.2 to get: 25-3.5x = y

substitute the y part in -y+0.4x=4.3 with the new equation that we made

(in bold)

so,

-(25-3.5x) +0.4x = 4.3

expand and simplify

so,

-25 +3.5x +0.4x = 4.3 -> -25 +3.9x = 4.3 -> 3.9x = 29.3 -> x ≈ 7.51

now, substitute the new x (underlined) to the equation in bold

so,

25-3.5(7.51) = y -> y ≈ -1.3
