Take the derivative of this function using the power rule


(d)/(dx) ( {x}^(n) ) = nx {}^(n - 1)

Since the terms are serpated using addition or subtraction we can take the derivative of this function separately

So our derivative end up becoming


6x - 7

Plug in x=2


6(2) - 7 = 5

So the gradient of the tangent line at 2,-7 is 5
