In the spring of 1894, the Dongxue Party peasant uprising broke out in North Korea, and the Korean government requested China to send troops to help suppress it. When the Qing army entered the DPRK, Japan raided the Chinese Beiyang fleet on July 25th, provoking the Sino Japanese Jiawu War.
