To answer this question you just need to know the inverse property rule. For example in this problem: 4*z=32, what is the 4 doing to the z? It’s multiplying it. So the opposite of multiplying is dividing. In order to isolate the z we must divide 4 on both sides. Because whatever you do on one side you must do to the other. So far the equation should look like this: 4/4*z=32/4. The 4 will get canceled out and then all we have to do in this problem is divide 32 by 4. Which you will get 8. So the problem will look like z=8.


The error they made here was at the second step where they decided to multiply 4 by 32.

In the second step, they should have divided 32 by 4 instead of multiplying. Whatever you do to one side, you must do to the other, or the equation won’t be balanced. The correct answer is z = 8.
