Using Pythagoras Theorem (Pythagorean Theorem), the equation to find the hypothenuse (side c) of a triangle is
a^(2)+
b^(2)=
c^(2)

In this case the hypothenuse is 11 cm and side b is 6cm.

therefore,
a^(2)+
6^(2)=
11^(2)

make a the subject
a^(2) =
11^(2) -
6^(2)


a^(2) = 85

a = 9.23 (nearest hundredth)
