When I first look at an equation, HOW DO I KNOW which method to use to solve it?

for example:

-4(7j+2) = 10

What do I look for (by looking at it) to know if I should start to solve it by distributing, or just use division?

Please help! I am really confused. Thank you

Distributing First

-28j - 8 = 10

Try to get the variable on one side.

-28j = 18

Divide both sides by -28

j = -18/28 = - 9/14
