Today, young people have less contact with senior citizens than in years past. What a shame! One reason for this situation is that families often live far apart. In the past, aging family members were commonly cared for by their kids. As a result, grandkids and grandparents had more opportunity to spend time together. Nowadays, senior citizens often live in assisted living communities when they need care. Instead of their families taking care of them, medical professionals do. The result is that children have less opportunity to spend time with senior citizens. More importantly, children are denied the wisdom of their grandparents. Grandparents also experience negative effects by this separation. They are being denied the company of youth. In turn, senior citizens can lose touch with the current world.

Final answer:

Sentence C, which states "More importantly, children are denied the wisdom of their grandparents," supports the idea of a negative impact on young people resulting from a lack of interaction with the elderly. It highlights the loss of intergenerational knowledge transfer and connections that traditionally enriched the lives of younger individuals.

Step-by-step explanation:

The sentence that supports the idea that young people suffer when they do not spend time with the elderly is option C: "More importantly, children are denied the wisdom of their grandparents." This statement emphasizes the loss of valuable knowledge and guidance that children could have received from their elders, showcasing a clear negative impact on the younger generation resulting from the decreased contact with senior citizens.

In past agrarian societies, caring for elderly relatives was part of the family dynamic, with grandparents providing support and wisdom. Industrialization and modernization led to a change in living arrangements, with the nuclear family becoming more common, and care for the elderly becoming a voluntary obligation rather than a norm. As a result, children in modern societies often miss out on the intergenerational wisdom and meaningful connections that were once part of the traditional family structure.
