putting equation 2 in equation 1 we get,

-2x+(1/2x+2)=-4

opening the brackets we get,

-2x+1/2x+2=-4

(-4x+x)/2=-4-2

-3x/2=-6

-3x=-6×2

-3x=-12

x=-12/-3

x=4

putting value of x in equation 2

y=1/2(4)+2

y=2+2

y=4

hence, x=4 and y=4
