Starch is a polymer made up of several repeating monomers and a complicated carbohydrate. Glycosidic linkages hold the glucose molecules that make up its monomers together. Plants are the main source of starch, which is a type of energy storage.
There are two primary components of starch: amylopectin and amylose. Whereas amylopectin is a branched chain with extra α-1,6-glycosidic linkages forming branch points, amylose is a linear chain of glucose molecules joined by α-1,4-glycosidic links.
