The Harlem Renaissance came to represent African Americans (especially people from the south experiencing segregation laws also known as the Jim Crow Laws) because they never had a chance to represent themselves, they never had the chance to show who they really were. So, during the renissance in Harlem New York they expressed themselves through music, art, dance, and literature. And people started to see that they were capable of much more than they ever imagined. People saw that they were more than "People of color".
