In 2001, 229 million cartons of apples were produced in the U.S. If 40% of the apples were eaten as fresh fruit, how many apples were used for fruit juice and other things?

We can say with certainty 2.29M is 1%. 2.29*40=91.6M

So 229M-91.6M=137.4M
137,400,000 Apples for other things other than consumption.
