Answer:

$4800

Explanation:

Let x be the C.P of the painting.

Profit=10% of x

Profit=
(10)/(100)* x=(10x)/(100)

If S.P increase by 240 then

Profit=15% of x=
(15x)/(100)

For first case

S.P=C.P+ Profit

S.P=x+10x/100

S.P=
(100x+10x)/(100)=(110)/(100)x

For second case

New S.P
=x+(15)/(100)x

=
(115)/(100)x

According to question

240+S.P=(115)/(100)x

240+(110x)/(100)=(115)/(100)x

240=(115)/(100)x-(110x)/(100)

240=(115x-110x)/(100)

240=(5)/(100)x

x=(240* 100)/(5)

x=4800

Hence, the C.P of the painting=$4800
