Cooper and yu are adding fractions, 1/3, 7/9, and 4/15. Their first step is to find the least common denominator of 3, 9, and 15. Is either of them correct? Explain your reasoning

When adding fractions which have unequal denominator values, the first step is to find a way in which all the denominators conform to a common denominator value which is achieved by obtaining the lowest common factor of the denominator values.

The L. C. M of 3, 9 and 15 is : 45

1/3 + 7/9 + 4/15

Npq we have a common denominator value :

(15 + 35 + 12) / 45

= 62 / 45
