So what I did is distribute the outside factors from the parenthesis into the expressions. Overall, distributing makes it look like this.


1q+1=-6q+3+8q+4

Then, I started to combine the like terms if there is any, which then results to this.


1q+1=2q+7

I subtracted 2q from both sides and combined like terms, leaving you with this.


1q-2q+1=7\\-1q+1=7

Subtract 1 from both sides and then divide by coefficient of q to get your final answer.


-1q=6\\6/(-1)=-6\\q=-6
