The surface area of the rectangular prism is 1882 cm². The surface of the cylinder is 78π cm². The lateral surface area = 60π cm².

Calculating Surface area of shapes.

To determine the amount of cardboard used for the construction of the cereal box, we need to find its surface area.

The surface area of the cereal box that takes a rectangular prism shape can be calculated as;

S.A = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh

S.A = 2(29 × 4) + 2(29 × 25) + 2(4 × 25)

S.A = 1882 cm²

The surface area of a Campbell's soup that takes a cylinder shape can be computed as:

S.A = 2 π r² + 2 π r h

where radius (r) = 3cm

S.A = 2π × (3 cm)² + 2π × 3 cm × 10 cm

S.A = 2π × 9 + 2π × 30

S.A = 18π + 60π

S.A = 78π cm²

The paper that covers the curved part of the container represent the lateral surface area of the cylinder and it is calculated by using the formula:

Lateral surface area = 2 π r h

Lateral surface area = 2π × 3 cm × 10 cm

Lateral surface area = 60π cm²
