Area of the shaded region is 42 unit²

The area of the shaded region = (Total area of square - Area of triangle)

Area of square = s²

  • s = side length

square 1 = 1² = 1 unit²

square 2 = 2² = 4 unit²

square 3 = 3² = 9 unit²

square 4 = 4² = 16 unit²

square 5 = 5² = 25 unit²

square 6 = 6² = 36 unit²

square 7 = 7² = 49 unit²

The total area : (1 + 4 + 9 + 16 + 25 + 36 + 49) = 140 unit²

Area of triangle :

  • 1/2 × base × height
  • base = 7 ; height = 28

Area = 0.5(7 × 28) = 98 unit²

Area of shaded region :

  • 140 - 98 = 42 unit²

Hence, the area of shaded region is 42 unit²
