Part A — Developing the Outline: Strong Body Paragraphs

Use the table provided to guide you as you develop your outlines with an emphasis on the body paragraphs. Be sure to use your Research Plan document and the outline you developed for the previous lesson.

Review these elements of body paragraphs to guide you in planning your outline:

Main Point: The main point should be a claim that relates to the research. In your case, it should have to do with a problem and how that problem can be solved.
Evidence: The evidence includes the facts you have found to support your claim. In this case, evidence is also known as supporting details. You can provide an in-text citation when paraphrasing your evidence. You should also state where you got it on the Works Cited page.
Analysis: Do not forget to offer an analysis of the evidence and how it relates to the main point.
Linking Sentence: Closely related independent clauses can be combined using a semicolon or a conjunctive adverb.
Before submitting your completed outline, be sure to edit for:

Semicolons correctly when combining independent clauses

Colon usage when introducing quotations.
