The balanced reaction equation is; Na +
Br_2 ---> Na
Br_2

Usually, there is an electron transfer between the two elements during the reaction. Bromine (Br) is a halogen, while sodium (Na) is a metal. Sodium bromide is created when bromine receives an electron from sodium during the process.

Ions are produced as a result of this electron transfer: bromine becomes a negatively charged ion (Br⁻) and sodium becomes a positively charged ion (Na⁺). The ionic compound sodium bromide is created when the oppositely charged ions are drawn to one another. A metal reacting with a halogen to generate an ionic compound is exemplified by the reaction between sodium and bromide.
