substitution method is tricky until u get the hang of it. 6y=x so 3x-8y=-50 can be rewritten as 3(6y)-8y=-50.

Explanation:

3x-8y=-50.........(1)

6y= x ..............(2)

Substituting x = 6y in (1)

3(6y) - 8y = -50

multiply 3(6y)

18y - 8y = -50

subtract 8y from 18y

10y = -50

divide to get y alone

y = -50/10

y = -5

now substitute. you know what y is. 6y=x / 6(-5)=x

solve :)

6y = x

6(-5) = x

-30 = x

x = -30
