Why is it a problem for the Confederacy, that the Union has control of Fort Sumter?

Answer:

Fort Sumter was a crucial area for the Confederacy to take control of because it would allow them to create a hole in the Union blockade of the Atlantic port. They also wanted that area because of the shipping lanes and was occupied by union soldiers.
