Answer:

x = 1 and y = 2

Explanation:

y + 3x = 5 -------------> (1)

-4y + 5x = -3 -------------> (2)

(1) * 4

=> 4y + 12x = 20 --------> (3)

(3) + (2)

=> 0y + 17x = 17

=> 17x = 17

by dividing both sides by 17

=> x = 1

by putting x = 1 into (1)

=> y + 3*1 = 5

=> y + 3 = 5

=> y = 5 - 3

=> y = 2

Answer:

(1, 2 )

Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

y = - 3x + 5 → (1)

5x - 4y = - 3 → (2)

Substitute y = - 3x + 5 into (2)

5x - 4(- 3x + 5) = - 3 ← distribute and simplify left side

5x + 12x - 20 = - 3

17x - 20 = - 3 ( add 20 to both sides )

17x = 17 ( divide both sides by 17 )

x = 1

Substitute x = 1 into (1) for corresponding value of y

y = - 3(1) + 5 = - 3 + 5 = 2

solution is (1, 2 )
