The probability that the dart will land on the shaded region is 40/81

What is the probability that the dart will land on the shaded region?

From the question, we have the following parameters that can be used in our computation:

The circle

The shaded area is calculated using

Shaded area = Area of circle with radius 7 - Area of circle with radius 3

So, we have

Shaded area = π * 7² - π * 3²

Shaded area = 40π

The area of the whole circle is

Area = π * 9²

Area = 81π

So, the required probability is

P = 40π/81π

Evaluate

P = 40/81

Hence, the probability is 40/81

Question

A target shown in the given figure consists of three concentric circle of radii 3, 7 and 9 cm respectively. A dart is thrown and lands on the target. What is the probability that the dart will land on the shaded region?
