Answer:

The electron transport chain is a series of oxidation-reduction reactions that releases energy.This energy is used to pump hydrogen ions across a membrane, establishing an electrochemical gradie. The hydrogen ions can only pass through the inner mitochondrial membrane through a membrane protein called ATP synthase.This process is known as chemiosmosis.The energy from chemiosmosis is used by the enzyme ATP synthase to make ATP.
